School and District Engagements: Strengthening Our Partnership with Arkansas

The Writing Revolution (TWR) continues to deepen its collaboration with Arkansas state leadership, building momentum for high-quality writing instruction across the state. With new cohorts launching this summer, fall, and winter, we are excited to support more educators in implementing evidence-based writing strategies. Additionally, we are exploring opportunities to integrate the No More Marking (NMM) approach on a state level and look forward to presenting at the Arkansas Department of Education Summit in July.

A Strong Start at Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy

One of the most exciting developments in our Arkansas partnership has been our work with Dr. Marian G. Lacey K-8 Academy in Little Rock. Following a successful in-person kick-off meeting in January, TWR faculty members Kiersten and Alex made their first site visit to Lacey Academy on February 26th.

Upon arrival, they were warmly welcomed by Principal Porter, Ms. Hood (K-2 Assistant Principal), Ms. Wood (K-5 Instructional Coach), and other members of the instructional leadership team. Given that teachers are still in the early stages of their TWR training, the TWR team was incredibly impressed by what they saw.

Teachers at Lacey Academy are already embedding TWR strategies into their instruction to assess student understanding across multiple subjects. In ELA, social studies, and math classrooms from Kindergarten through 4th grade, students were engaged in a variety of structured writing activities that helped them articulate their learning clearly and confidently.

A Culture of Support and Growth

Beyond classroom observations, Kiersten and Alex also had the opportunity to sit in on PLCs for Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 4th grade teams. The Lacey Academy instructional leadership team has fostered a highly supportive environment, encouraging teachers to take risks, refine their practice, and share their learning. This collaborative approach is key to long-term success with TWR, and we are excited to see how Lacey educators continue to grow in their implementation.

As we move forward in our statewide partnership with Arkansas, we are thrilled to continue supporting teachers, leaders, and students in strengthening writing skills that will serve them across all disciplines. Stay tuned for more updates as we expand our training cohorts and explore new ways to bring TWR to schools across the state!
